After the veritable storm of interest these last few days, we've hit the eye of our metaphorical storm. The number of people willing to pay for beta keys have dried up (I'm fairly confident you can get one right now if you are willing to pay for a FilePlanet subscription). I pointed out several times today that the next dates for the release of beta keys haven't actually been announced yet. Someone picked up on this and there is now a multipage thread on the community forums spreading paranoia. Its a fairly safe bet that the free keys will be tomorrow though.
There have been a lot of signups and tournament proposals which as a non-quake follower is truly bizarre. Arranging a tournament for a game that's not even finished yet?! We're not in Kansas anymore. I guess they pulled the same thing with PainKiller but that always struck me as an official promo attempt. Yet of the 30,000k keys given to FilePlanet subscribers, only around 100 people are playing at the moment! That's a tiny portion. Either the fileplanet players aren't true fans or the burnout rate is very high.
Anyway, here's to a good first day tomorrow! |
