Admin Question - Timezone Page: 1

Quick question for a cup admin, I tried to contact on IRC last night but it must have been a bit late.

I recently accepted my clans incoming war challenge for the cup scheduelled for Thursday 19.30. Problem is we are in the UK and our opponents are from Germany, so which time zone are we working on? I can't see anything in rules about timezone.

It did not occur to me that the timezone might be GMT+1 (as it is in Germany I think) which would make our game 18:30 which is way to early for us.

I know its my responsibility to have checked this but we are new to the league and used to the CB system which defines the timezone.

Thanks in advance.

germany has GMT+2 (or BST+1) at the moment (because of DST)

Ok, the way it works is like this. The base timezone is the servers timezone (CET). All dates and times are stored in the database in CET.

Now, say you have set your timezone in your profile to CET+1. If so, then all dates and times will also be reported in CET+1. So a newspost made at 20:00 CET, will show as 21:00.
The same goes for planning matches, but the other way around. If you plan a match on 22:00 your time, the server will reduce the time with one hour, thus being 21:00 CET :)

In addition: If the war-arranger of the receiving clan has his timezone set to CET - 1, he will receive a challenge for 21:00 - 1 hour = 20:00. Hope this clarifies it :)

Ahhh your site has allowances for timezones as the clans and players can define a country.

Nice, thanks!

Your country setting does not affect the timezone though! You have to select your timezone apart from your country. This is done because some countries overlap several timezones :)

OK, bit of an update. If I am reading the post from Morax correctly, then all times are stored in CET in the DB. This means all users must then select what THEIR OWN time difference is between where they are and CET.

This can be done by going to http://wwp.centraleuropeantime.eu/ , it will display the current CET and look at your timezone settings and work out the difference. In my case, I am BST so I am CET - 1. I have updated my setting and my game is now 18.30!!!!

Thankfully I contacted our opponents and renegotiated a time of 21:00 CET (20:00 BST). For the record I would like to thank roYality for their good sportsmanship in this matter.

All sorted, but as a suggestion it might be good to provide a like in the profile setup seciton for people to work out the correct timezone as a lot of people (inc me) presumed it was the general "GMT" offset, which for me is 0.
